You can submit your application starting December 13th until March 15th, 2026

Renewal Scholarship Application:

Only current LAWA Scholarship recipients can apply for the LAWA Renewal Scholarship Application. Your renewal will be based on the completion of the Renewal Scholarship Application, GPA, the completion of your 3 LAWA volunteer hours, and your attendances to 2 College Hacks by March 15th.

New Youth Scholarship Application:

1. Be of Hispanic origin: Any student of Hispanic origin, defined as the heritage nationality, lineage, or country of birth of the person or the person’s parents or ancestors before arriving in the United States (U.S. Census Bureau  www.census.gov/topics/population/about.html)
2. 
Be a high school graduate or have graduated within the 2025-2026 academic year.
3. The student must have a minimum unweighted GPA of 2.5 to be eligible for consideration. 
4. Student’s permanent residence located in Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Gaston, Iredell or Union counties.

Gap Year Scholarship Application:

1. Students looking to enroll full-time in post-secondary education who graduated high school between 2023-2025.
2. Any student of Hispanic origin, defined as the heritage nationality, lineage, or country of birth of the person or the person’s parents or ancestors before arriving in the United States (U.S. Census Bureau
www.census.gov/topics/population/about.html 
3. The student’s permanent residence is in Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Gaston, Iredell or Union Counties.
4. The student will need to submit proof of acceptance to an accredited vocational school, college or university as a full-time student and has not received a LAWA Scholarship before. 

Currently Enrolled Scholarship Application:

1. Student is currently enrolled full-time in post-secondary education.
2. Be 
of Hispanic origin, defined as the heritage nationality, lineage, or country of birth of the person or the person’s parents or ancestors before arriving in the United States (U.S. Census Bureau  www.census.gov/topics/population/about.html).
3. Graduated high school or early middle college within the last three years.
4. Student’s permanent residence located in Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Gaston, Iredell or Union counties.
5. The student is currently enrolled in an accredited vocational school, college or university as a full-time student and has a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Throughout our organization's materials the word "Latino(s)" will be used as the term to recognize and describe all of those who identify with Spanish heritage. All of those being a) Latino/a which refers to people who identify as descendants from Latin America and speak Spanish; b) Hispanic in which the word refers to people who speak Spanish and have descended from Spanish speaking populations; and c) Latinx which refers to people choosing to use term that is gender-neutral and an alternative to Latino, Latina, and Hispanic.
